5 Red Flags to Watch Out for When Choosing a Digital Agency

Most businesses are now choosing both traditional and digital routes for marketing their product or service. When choosing a reputable digital agency, there are several things to be beware of before you hire them. Here are five red flags to watch out for when choosing your agency.

They were previously only a traditional agency.

Often, traditional agencies are just not equipped to handle the digital needs of their clients. Many have not adapted to the new methods of online marketing. Of course, this isn't always true, but you need to be wary of their claims.

They don’t talk about engagement when it comes to social media.

If your agency only talks about fan counts, instead of engagement, then you shouldn't hire them. There are ways to buy fan counts that don’t actually help market or sell any products.

They don’t plan on showing you specific metrics.

You need to be able to agree on what success means for your digital campaign. Don’t hire an agency that won’t show you the analytics behind the campaign to determine whether or not it is resonating.

They won’t show you examples of how they've increased SEO for another client.

It is easy to claim to be a search expert, but you shouldn't feel afraid to ask for proof. Have them show you the ranking for another client.

If they have too many “partner” agencies.

If your digital agency isn’t actually doing the work themselves, this is a major red flag. If they are bringing in a hodgepodge of other agencies, you can’t be sure exactly what you’re going to get.
